Few places in the Canadian north combine such a variety of freshwater fishing with all the comforts of home. Located near the 60th parallel in northwest Saskatchewan, Lake Athabasca is the largest lake in the province and is recognized as one of the “Big Fish” waters of the world. Whether you’re after Trophy Lake Trout, Arctic Grayling, huge Northern Pike, Whitefish, or Walleye, you’ll find them all here. Cliff and Stella Blackmur have been providing anglers with this comforts of home approach to fishing for over 30 years and man do they! Their list of “repeat customers” is staggering–many of which book their trip for the following year upon checkout. That is quite the compliment!
Joe traveled to Lake Athabasca last July to get a first hand look. During the course of 7 days, he literally lost count of the number of fish caught. Day after day Northerns and Walleyes slammed his flies and baits with a fury. Joe is an avid fly fisher and catching 42” Northern Pike on a fly rod was a real treat! Daily shore lunches with fresh fish, potatoes and baked beans only added to the excitement. As for the lodge, Cliff and Stella could not have been more gracious hosts. The food and company was incomparable and Joe will definitely be on the soon-to-return list for this destination!
